  •  Several small boats were capsized yesterday during the squall, but no one was drowned
  • Mr. F.C. DANIELS left this morning for Goldsboro to make arrangements for the accommodation of the Newbern fire department during tournament week.
  • Lightening yesterday struck the residence of Mr. James HANCOCK on Middle street.  It struck the southeast corner of the roof, running up the edge nearly to the comb, and tearing off the molding and shingles, and breaking the window glass.
  • Mess. H.C. WHITEHURST, president , and H.L. HALL, treasurer, of Craven Lodge No. 1 Knights of Harmony, on Monday the 18th, paid to Mrs. Rachel MANN, widow and beneficiary of C.C. MANN, deceased,  $134, being the balance due on certificate of beneficiary.
  •  The signal corps that had been stationed at Cape Lookout, consisting of Mess. J.L. HARTSFIELD, Sam HYDE, C.C. THORNTON, Don Wood and Ed HARDISON, came up this morning and will leave this evening for Norfolk.  From that place it is thought they will go to the Philippines.
